The Miss Black Shreveport Pageant was started in February of 1994 as a way to allow African American young women a way to display their talents and compete for cash awards during Black History Month. The pageant was started by Dr. Velma Carroll, a pageant veteran of 35 years. Some of the past winners have been Judge Faith (Faith Jenkins), Attorney Ebony Norris, Evette McGee, Cherry Whitaker, Rokundra Whitaker, Lashonda Phelps, Nancy Hedgemon, Lisa Blakely, Crystal Barrow, Krystal Morris and many more.
Ages are 0mo. -11mo., 12-23 mo., 2 years, 3-4 years, 5-6 years, 7-9 years, 10-12 years, 13-17 years, 17-24 years, and Mrs. Married women of all ages. This is an open pageant to contestants who do not live in Shreveport. Applications are available online. Admission is $10. Tickets may be purchased the door or buy tickets online.
