Maria Schmelz & Ron Austin works will be on display in the East Bank Gallery April 1- May 31, 2019.
Maria enjoys photographing things that may otherwise go unnoticed in our fast-paced world. Her love affair with photography began as a child when her grandmother would bring out her special box of family photos from the 1800s. At age 9, she received her first camera and has been snapping images ever since.
Ron bought his first 35mm single lens reflex camera in 1972. From that time to the present he has worked with small, medium, large formats including photography needed to perform image capture for electron microscopy specimens, which is a technique and format all its very own.
For a long time, it was just a lot of fun and a means to escape the drudgery that comes from the work-a-day world. Somewhere along the line, he began to realize that photography is about time as much as anything else. To Ron, capturing a very brief moment measured in hundreds, even thousands of a second. Given the right care, that moment in time would continue to exist as long as he is around and perhaps long after he has gone.
The Opening Reception will be held on Friday, April 5th at 6 p.m.
