What’s the definition of a field trip? Dictionaries define it as “a journey by a group of people to a place away from their normal environment for the purposes of firsthand observation.” This adult journey is disembarking on Wednesday, July 24 from 6-10 p.m. on Line Avenue. Why an adult field trip, you ask? It’s for overcoming the lingering heat of the Dog Days of Summer, the end of summer vacation blues, the longing for cooler autumn weather to begin and a salute to parents who may need a break before the hustle and bustle of school begins. More importantly, it’s just to have fun, explore Line Avenue in a different way and meet new people in your community. Join us in establishing the first “Chillin’: An Adult Summer Field Trip” in which adults can lay back and enjoy a few hours of explorative fun.
Three Line Avenue destination stations will be featured on this field trip in which these stopping points will offer a mini-event experience along with their own interpretation and version of “Chillin’.” C&C Mercantile & Lighting will be turning down the thermostat and asking folks to wear their fur and summer flip flops to celebrate their own version of “Christmas In July”. Owners Lauren and Derek Simmons, along with their in-house merchants and home-grown artists, will have some interactive Christmas holiday fun. Hand-crafted adult popsicles, Christmas cookies, music, cash bar, iced coffee, and other nods to the chillin’ winter air will be on hand. Santa may even drop by to check out who’s being naughty or nice.
Locally owned businesses inside C&C Mercantile & Lighting that will be participating include Sweetport, Lyons Pride Coffee, Paige Powell Designs, Sweet Tee Shreveport and Meghan Mills Awalt of Meghan Awalt Floral Designs, Art by Lauren Ross Simmons, Rusty Carter Art, Revival Journals, Kathi Hamel Jewelry and Antiques. Line Avenue neighbor, The Enchanted Garden, will also be on hand with their own Chillin’ items.
Chef Blake Jackson, Owner of of Whisk Dessert Bar and Drake Catering will be creating a laid back “Louisiana Luau”-themed event. “We are really looking forward to hosting one heck of a luau; whole pig roast, tons of tropical-themed desserts and drinks, maybe even some limbo and sand dancing fun.” Fellow retail neighbor L.E. and Chalk’s doors will also be open for folks to come in and check out their unique clothes and wares.
Superior's Steakhouse’s private banquet rooms will convert into “The Zen Den”; a beautiful place that will both calm and excite the senses. Pour your own specialty “white grape smash” mocktail into an ice luge to watch it chill along its pathway into your glass, take a selfie with LED angel wings created by Apex Communications and Events, LLC set amongst a heavenly moonlit collage of sculptured balloons and check out the ”ice bar” featuring diamond jewelry from Stephen Miller Fine Jewelry. Be sure to cue in on your ice cube as you drink, as it may contain a frozen diamond in it. Themed appetizers and a specialty-priced cocktail and mocktail will be on hand in addition to a regular cash bar.
Attendees can drive to each location or take the “On the Fly” luxury field trip bus that will loop continuously to each destination location throughout the evening.
The cost to participate in this Chillin’ event is $10 and tickets can be purchased on EventBrite. Each field trip participant will receive a special lanyard to wear during the evening trip. These lanyards will be required to be stamped at each destination station to be eligible for a $250 cash prize. Each destination station will have specialty themed food and drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) available that will range in price from $5-$20.
Come on out on Wednesday, July 24 to have a chillin’ adventure on Line Avenue that supports small business, helps increase our city’s vibrancy, and allows us to get to know our community better.
