The Red River Crossroads Historical & Cultural Association will present the 2017 Heritage & Harvest Tour, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 23, north of Shreveport along LA Hwy. 3049 and U.S. Hwy. 71 North. Local residents and visitors are invited to spend a day in the country exploring the history and culture of the region. Historic homes and farms that will be open for public tours during the 2016 Heritage & Harvest Tour include historic homes and farms - John B. Adger Plantation Home (13116 Adger Road in Gilliam), Northrose Plantation Home (8265 Corn Husker Road in Dixie off of Hwy. 3049) and Lynn Plantation Home (11580 Hwy. 3049 between Belcher and Gilliam) as well as other points of interest including businesses, churches and attractions. Singing Pines, an event venue located on the former grounds of the Hosston Public School (14905 Oak Street, Hosston), will have arts and crafts vendors, live entertainment and fried fish plate lunches throughout the day.
Tickets for tours are $10 each and may be purchased at Belcher Presbyterian Church (508 Gray Street/Hwy. 3049, Belcher), Crossroads Museum in Gilliam (located on Hwy. 3049 in Gilliam) and at the homes featured on the tour. The Heritage & Harvest Tour begins on Hwy. 3049 north of Shreveport. From Hwy. 3049, follow heritage tour signage to the tour route. Hwy. 71 North will also lead visitors to the tour route by turning at the Dixie, Belcher, or Gilliam turnoffs. Many communities along the tour route – including Dixie, Belcher, Gilliam, Hosston, Mira and Ida – are home to businesses and historical attractions that will be featured as tour stops.
A brochure containing a map of the Heritage & Harvest Tour route, as well as a complete listing of participating businesses and attractions, can be picked up at the Shreveport-Bossier Convention and Tourist Bureau’s downtown visitor center, located at 629 Spring Street in downtown Shreveport. Brochures will also be available on the day of the tour at Belcher Presbyterian Church, Crossroads Museum in Gilliam and at the homes featured on the tour.
