GET TO KNOW OUR ARTIST
Born and raised in Dallas, Texas, Hilarie was saturated with the love of art from a young age as she was heavily influenced by her mother and brother, who are artists in their own right. As a child, she spent countless hours writing and illustrating her own storybooks, as well as keeping busy by making a wide range of handmade crafts. From adolescence to her time at Texas A&M University, Hilarie's creative focus was in the performing arts as she was heavily involved in playing the piano and singing. After several life-changing events, she decided late in her college career to pursue her dream as a visual artist. Hilarie transferred to Sam Houston State University to participate in their art program and later graduated in 2012 with a B.A. in Studio Art and a minor in Special Education. While at Sam Houston State University she participated in a variety of group art shows.
"Being featured in the Emerging Artist Gallery not only gives me the long-awaited opportunity to have a solo exhibition but also to have my first show since graduation."
"I believe it is the job of the artist to give life to subjects that consume their mind, in an effort to better understand themselves as an individual as well as the role they play in an interconnected world. By using the elements of design I create visual reactions to personal experiences and use these means to explore the limits of the human condition. Through the creative process, staying true to myself and the subject matter are paramount. My intent is to express my private truths in a hope that they may inspire others to act honestly with themselves and to others, while also considering how disturbing our world can be when we choose otherwise."
